Highpoint, Newington Butts
The refurbishment of the former London Park Hotel site has resulted in two residential buildings – a 45-storey tower next to a seven-storey terraced house block. The award-winning Newington Butts construction project is one of the largest privately financed housing-development schemes in London in recent decades and sets the standard for future projects in partnership with public landowners. 457 residential units have been built.
The residential tower has 46 floors and is 149 metres high. Each of the floors typical of this tower is subdivided into eight triangular apartments, which are formed by the angular walls. This design provides the apartments a corner balcony for private outdoor use and a panoramic view over London. In addition to the apartments, the building also houses a new 180-seat theatre, a café and additional retail and market space.
The terraced houses below the residential tower consist of a series of pavilions whose interspaces create a visual link between the St Mary cemetery and the gardens behind it.
