Brooklyn Point, NYC

After much anticipation, the Brooklyn Point Tower – which was developed by Extell – has now been fully clad in its unique facade of glass and white panels, bringing the building one step closer to being ready for residents in early 2020. Upon completion, the 68-storey building will house 458 owner-occupied apartments in the centre of Brooklyn; each apartment will feature an open-plan kitchen and dining area. Brooklyn Point also has a large amenities suite, including an indoor swimming pool, a garden terrace with outdoor eating areas, a lobby lounger and the world’s highest infinity pool.

The 220-metre residential tower in downtown Brooklyn was designed by world-famous architects Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) and features a sculpture-like facade, with oversized windows that offer spectacular views over the Manhattan skyline, water and parks.

A sculptural statement

The double-storey frames emphasise the tower’s proportions, while its angular shape plays with light and shadow.

How does the design respond to downtown Brooklyn’s architectural roots?

For us, it was very important the tower wasn’t going to be made entirely from glass. Because most traditional Brooklyn buildings are more solid, it was very important for the facade to exude an elegant solidity.

Brooklyn Point is located in the district’s most famous location. How did its presence contribute to the direction of the design?

It is a like a gateway when you cross over the bridge. It is a tall building and it was important to take a purist approach with a unique facade. The exterior will be very recognisable as an image that will become one of Brooklyn’s landmarks. It really has a distinctive presence in the area.

Can you describe some of the highlights on the facade in detail?

A diverse range of materials were used in this project. And I think that says more with regard to downtown Brooklyn. There is this incredible array of different heights, materials, different concepts. The entire project is an attempt to respond to this with all the different types of cladding. The most important thing is the way in which the materials are folded, structured and placed next to one another, giving the building its important shapes.

Brooklyn Point represents a new benchmark in luxury living in downtown Brooklyn. The 68-storey mixed-use residential tower houses a selection of studios, luxury three-bedroom apartments and over 12,200 square metres of indoor and outdoor amenities. Brooklyn Point will be the first residential real estate available to buy at City Point – Brooklyn’s largest centre for food, shopping and entertainment.
