Highpoint, Newington Butts
Two residential buildings have emerged following the redevelopment of the former London Park Hotel site - a 45-storey tower next to a seven-storey terraced house block. The award-winning Newington Butts construction project is one of the largest privately financed housing-development schemes in London during the last decade and sets the standard for future projects in partnership with public landowners. 457 housing units have been built.
The residential tower has 46 storeys and is 149 metres high. Each of the floor levels typical of this tower is subdivided into eight triangular apartments which are formed by the sloping side walls. This design provides the apartments with a corner balcony for a private outside area and a panorama view over London. In addition to the apartments, the building also houses a new, 180-seat theatre, a cafe as well as additional retail trade and market areas.
The terraced houses below the residential tower consist of a series of pavilions whose spaces create a visual connection between the cemetery of St. Mary and the gardens lying behind this.
