Hygienic door handles from BKS

Washing your hands properly, sneezing or coughing into the crook of your arm - these are behaviours that have proved particularly effective in protecting yourself and others from infection.

In addition to these behaviours, high standards of hygiene must be maintained, especially in hospitals, doctors' surgeries and care facilities, which makes it necessary to disinfect surfaces. However, the treatment of a surface with disinfectant is not always equally effective at all points. Also, the effect of manual disinfection often does not last until the next interval cleaning.

BKS hardware range with antimicrobial surfaces

Door handles that are touched by many people every day run the risk of becoming infected with germs, bacteria or viruses. For this reason, BKS has expanded its existing range of door handles to include products with an antimicrobial surface.

The WDL fittings from BKS convince with innovative technology and durable function. Now the fittings have been extended to include the aspect of hygiene. The antimicrobial coating SANPURE® from our cooperation partner GB Neuhaus is used. It contains the active ingredient nanosilver, which kills bacteria, germs and fungi and renders them harmless. Independent studies have also proven that SANPURE® causes a virus reduction of more than 99.99 percent after only eight hours. It lasts for more than 20 years, is scratch-resistant and also chemically resistant to conventional cleaning agents and disinfectants. The transparent coating does not impair the de-signed appearance of the door handles.

Silver has a killing effect on germs

Silver is effective against a variety of different micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses on surfaces, skin and mucous membranes. Responsible for this anti-microbial effect are the positively charged silver ions. They are formed by oxidation of elemental silver on contact with moisture. The silver ions bind to the cell proteins of the germs and thus destroy important functions in the cell. The germs die.

Effect of nanosilver / silver ions on surfaces

In principle, nanosilver (nanosilver are particles of elemental silver less than 100 nanometres in size) can be incorporated into powder coatings and paints of all kinds: whether water-based, solvent-based or UV-curing. The nanoparticles cannot be rubbed out of the surfaces. Once they have been worked in, they last for the entire life of the product.

A surface that has been treated with nanosilver has a clear advantage: because nanosilver immediately stops the exponential growth of germs. And it causes a permanent disinfection of the surface.

On a surface equipped with nanosilver particles, germs are not only prevented from multiplying, they are killed.

In addition to hygienic safety, the antimicrobial surface coating used has been proven to have no adverse effects on the ecological balance of healthy human skin microflora. Furthermore, SANPURE® contains a modern system for the controlled release of active ingredients and thus fulfils all requirements for biocompatibility and poses no danger to the environment.
