Brooklyn Point, NYC

After much anticipation, the Extell-developed Brooklyn Point tower is now fully clad in its unique glass and white-paneled façade, bringing the building one step closer to welcoming residents in early 2020. Upon completion, the 68-story building will be home to 458 Downtown Brooklyn condos, each equipped with open-concept kitchen and dining spaces. Brooklyn Point is also home to a spacious amenities’ suite, including an indoor pool, a landscaped terrace with alfresco dining areas, a lobby lounge, and the world’s highest residential infinity pool.

Designed by world-renowned architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), the soaring, 720-foot-tall Downtown Brooklyn condominium tower features a sculptural façade with oversized windows that frame spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, waterways, and parks.

A sculptural statement

Double-height frames emphasize the proportions of the tower while their angled geometry creates an interplay between light and shadow.

How does the design respond to the architectural origins of Downtown Brooklyn?

For us it was very important that the building not be an all glass tower. Given that Brooklyn has a tradition of more solid buildings, it was very important that the façade exhibits an elegant solidity.

Brooklyn Point is positioned at the most prominent location in the borough. How did its visibility contribute to the design direction?

This is a gateway site as you come over the bridge. It’s a tall building, and it was important to be pure with a singular façade design. The exterior will be something very recognizable as a graphic that will become a Brooklyn landmark. It really creates a distinctive presence for that location.

Can you describe some of the finishing detail highlights of the façade?

The materiality of this project is quite eclectic. And I think that’s speaking more to Downtown Brooklyn. You have this incredible diversity of scale, of materiality of these different programs and the overall project tries to respond to that with the different cladding types. What’s most important is the way in which the materials are folded and textured and juxtaposed that give the building kind of the important forms.

Brooklyn Point reperesents a new standard of luxury living in Downtown Brooklyn. The 68-story mixed-use condominium tower includes a selection of studio to three bedroom luxury apartments and over 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities. Brooklyn Point will be the first for-sale residential property at City Point - the largest food, shopping, and entertainment destination in Brooklyn.
